Monica E.
Edwards concentrates her practice in the areas
of environmental and real estate law and intellectual
property matters. Monica, an Evansville native, graduated
in 1994 from Southern Methodist University with a B.S.
in Chemistry. She received an M.S. in Environmental
and Hazardous Waste Materials Management from Southern
Methodist University in 1996 and graduated in 2000 with
a J.D. from Louis D. Brandeis School of Law at the University
of Louisville. She has worked as a technical services
chemist for a chemical manufacturer and as an environmental
consultant for Dames & Moore. Her scientific background
helps her assist clients in performing environmental
due diligence, negotiating environmental settlement
agreements, coordinating site clean-up and prosecuting
historical environmental insurance claims.
Monica is frequently involved with
environmental due diligence reviews for complex real
estate transactions and mergers and acquisitions for
mid-size, national and international companies. She
aids owners and operators in the recovery of funds to
address environmental fees and expenses typically associated
with the investigation and clean-up of historical manufacturing,
dry cleaning and underground storage tank operations.
As part of these efforts, she oversees trusts and funding
for multiple high-dollar environmental claims for individuals,
businesses and governmental entities. Monica is also
knowledgeable of Indiana’s Excess Liability Trust Fund
and represents clients in various air permitting matters.
Monica’s intellectual property experience
includes the registration, assignment and renewal of
trademarks and copyrights. She is also frequently involved
with the licensing and defense of intellectual property
and the negotiation of confidentiality agreements on
clients’ behalf.
