The
firm’s summer clerkship program is one of our primary
means for recruiting and hiring new associates. We offer
paid summer clerk positions to first and second year law
students who are at or near the top third of their class.
Other factors such as work experience, participation in
law review or moot court, and community involvement are
also considered in evaluating candidates. We conduct on-campus
interviews at several area law schools. Students from
those schools may apply through their career placement
office during the fall recruiting period. Applicants may
also contact the firm directly.
The goal of the program is to give
our clerks a broad range of legal experience to assist
them in making informed career choices. We endeavor to
provide summer clerks with a realistic view of what life
as a full-time associate at KDDK would be like. Clerks
have the opportunity to work on matters in various practice
areas and with various attorneys throughout the firm.
Our clerks conduct legal research; draft memoranda, briefs,
pleadings, and other documents; and observe client meetings,
depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and court proceedings.
Clerks receive mentoring and constructive feedback on
their work product throughout the summer. Our "open
door" policy encourages frequent interaction with
all attorneys. We also arrange a variety of social activities
throughout the summer to allow clerks to become acquainted
with our attorneys on a more personal level.
