The holidays are a time of merriment, thanksgiving and spending time with loved ones. Often times the holiday season is the only chance to see family members who live a great distance away. This year, while everyone is visiting, take the opportunity to talk with family about your Will, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, and other estate planning matters.
Offer to discuss what you have in place, or plan to get in place, and answer any questions and concerns your loved ones may have.
Ask about changes in each of their lives that may necessitate changes to your own plan or the roles any of them have been designated to serve.
Then, make it your New Year’s resolution to contact your attorney to follow through with your planning, or make needed changes to existing estate planning documents. This is one resolution that is easy to keep!
