French Lick, Indiana was the site of
the October 4, 2002 annual meeting of the Environmental
Law Section of the Indiana State Bar Association. At this
meeting, G. Michael Schopmeyer, a KDDK partner who had
served as Chairman of the ISBA Environmental Law Section
for 2001-2002 passed the gavel to his successor, Guinn
Doyle of Indianapolis.
The ISBA's Environmental Section has
been instrumental over the last decade in successfully
lobbying improved Hoosier environmental laws, and
organizing educational programs which advance
environmental laws. Schopmeyer was the first Southern
Indiana attorney to have been elected to this prominent
post within the ISBA. During his tenure as Chairman, the
ISBA organized several educational programs bringing
together environmental leaders from the Hoosier
Environmental Counsel, Indiana Chamber of Commerce and the
Indiana Department of Environmental Management discussing
diverse environmental issues such as (1) alternative
dispute resolution techniques for resolving environmental
disputes; (2) challenging issues in the use of
institutional controls for brownfield redevelopments; and
(3) deciphering the legislative activities of our General
Assembly.
