Education

  • 1980: University of Evansville, Evansville, Ind., B.S. cum laude, Business Administration, Finance Major
  • 1983: Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, Indianapolis, Ind., J.D.

Experience

  • Brownfield Redevelopment: Organized the clean-up and redevelopment of most of the region’s brownfield and environmental remediation sites, recovering the funding for clients to accomplish these clean-ups through negotiated settlements, not litigation. (Recently, a large industrial site we worked was visited by Chinese delegates to learn about the globally-acceptable design and implementation of soil and groundwater remediation.)
  • Business Supply Contracting: Negotiates successfully manufacturing supplier agreements across many industries, including pharmaceutical, automotive and construction, resolving the time-sensitive terms and conditions crucial for Fortune 500 companies’ supply lines.
  • Construction Projects: Eliminates wasteful construction claims by effectively incorporating and administering creative incentive, indemnity and dispute resolution clauses from owner’s, contractor’s and subcontractor’s perspectives.
  • Mega-Industrial and Headquarters Site Assemblage: Completed on-time and on-budget the legal oversight of many of the area’s largest commercial and industrial facilities by negotiating unique cost-saving contracts for assembling land tracts and erecting major new corporate headquarters and manufacturing facilities.
  • Condemnation: Resolved more than 50 complex and potentially costly condemnation cases by utilizing novel methods, such as applying engineering and alternative valuation solutions that improve a site’s future economic and development potential, from both private owner’s and government’s perspectives.
  • Property Tax Incentives: Captured property tax incentives required to entice expanding and new relocating businesses to various regions across Indiana.
  • Rezoning: Served in both obtaining and successfully remonstrating against rezoning petitions before most of Southwest Indiana’s municipalities and counties.
  • Real Estate Acquisition and Leasing; Prevailed with out-of-state legal counsel in negotiating profitable multi-state real estate acquisition and leasing contracts.
  • Trademark and Copyright: Succeeded in prosecuting the resolution of multiple trademark and copyright infringement claims.
  • Wetlands Mitigation: Collaborated with teams of U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and Indiana Department of Environmental Management in developing covenants and restrictions for wetlands mitigation and permits required for major commercial developments.
  • Tax Exempt Bond Financing: Assisted developers, city and state economic development entities in gaining favorable tax exempt bond financing, allowing the expansion of educational, healthcare and industrial facilities.
