Happy 800th Birthday!

Eight hundred years ago on this day, June 15th, King John signed the Magna Carta which limited his own powers and set forth the rights of the people, forming the backbone of English common law.

There are many links between the Magna Carta and our own U.S. Constitution. For instance, Chapter 12 of Magna Carta announced the principle of “taxation through representation.” Chapters 17 through 19 led to a court system separate from the King.

KDDK acknowledges those who made the Magna Carta real 800 years ago as a true beginning for freedoms we enjoy today.
