According to figures released on April 24, 2014, by the United States Bankruptcy Courts, bankruptcy filings in the Southern District of Indiana, Southern District of Illinois and Western District of Kentucky were down an average of 9% during the 12-month period that ended March 31, 2014,  compared to the previous 12-month period that ended March 31, 2013.

Overall bankruptcy filings dropped 8.6% in the Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of Indiana, which includes the cities of Indianapolis, Evansville, Terre Haute, and New Albany. The Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of Illinois saw a 12.8% decrease in filings, while filings fell 7.4% in the Bankruptcy Court in the Western District of Kentucky. Across the country, bankruptcy filings were down 11% during the same time period from April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014.
